Blogovision 2016/My top-20 albums of the year - no.01: David Bowie - Blackstar

Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried:
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)
How many times does an angel fall?
How many people lie instead of talking tall?
He trod on sacred ground, he cried aloud into the crowd
(I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar, I'm not a gangstar)

Lyrics from Blackstar by David Bowie from his album Blackstar

Blogovision 2016/My top-20 albums of the year - no.02: case/lang/veirs

Of just how beautiful you are
From within
Exquisite to the detail
It hypnotizes people
Robs them of their social graces
Swarming to your glow
Fanning with phrases

But I know
It’s all honey and smoke
They don’t really love you
Like I do

I watch as they sing to you
I watch as they dance with you
I watch as they pour
Honey in your ear

Lyrics from Honey And Smoke by case/lang/veirs from their album case/lang/veirs

Blogovision 2016/My top-20 albums of the year - no.04: Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker

If you are the dealer, I'm out of the game
If you are the healer, it means I'm broken and lame
If thine is the glory then mine must be the shame
You want it darker
We kill the flame
Magnified, sanctified, be thy holy name
Vilified, crucified, in the human frame
A million candles burning for the help that never came
You want it darker
Hineni, hineni
I'm ready, my lord

Lyrics from You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen from his album You Want It Darker

Blogovision 2016/My top-20 albums of the year - no.07: Nicolas Jaar - Sirens

Ya dijimos No
Pero el Si está en todo
Lo de adentro y de afuera
Lo de lejos y de cerca
Lo que todos hemos visto
Y lo que ni siquiera dicen
Ya dijimos No!

English translation from the original Spanish:
We said no
But the If is in everything
The inside and the outside
Far and near
What we have all seen
And what they do not even say
We already said No!

Lyrics from No by Nicolas Jaar from his album Sirens

Blogovision 2016/My top-20 albums of the year - no.08: The Hidden Cameras - Home On Native Land

I burned everything I own, left it in a pile smoldering
Took about on foot out into the wood like an animal
Hap’d upon a tree, slept there underneath the birds and planes
Woke up to find that I was alone
Took a man’s ride with an eagle eye I was careless
Rolling down the road, in from the cold I was tripping
He took me to his lair said we should be married with a grin
I refuse to make amends
Refuse to wallow anymore

Blogovision 2016/My top-20 albums of the year - no.10: Tindersticks - The Waiting Room

Can you see me by in this life
You talking to shadows
Can you recognize
What we want is loving
What we want is loving
Look in the mirror there’s a fear
Of finger tears
Tracing the shape of my love
To my tear
Look like a lie that’s whispering
Forgotten side
The secrets fading
In the back of my mind
Where we want is loving

Lyrics from Were We Once Lovers? by Tindersticks from their album The Waiting Room

A small tribute to David Bowie, 1947 - 2016

David Bowie was (is) one of the most influential and avant guard artists that ever walked this earth. As part of the tributes pouring out from all over the world in the wake of his death, I decided to re-make, with the help of a Fine Print Elise Jolie, two of his most iconic album covers: Aladdin Sane and Low. If you do not know who David Bowie is, please try and discover him, it will open a multitude of new worlds for you.
